Is your company ready for AI?
Use our AI checklist to see if your business is ready for AI
Before going to market for a new AI solution, there’s a few things to assess in your company. You need to look at internal capability, data quality and accessibility, and potential constraints. This is also a chance to assess your IT infrastructure – your storage capacity and security systems may need an upgrade before you can start.
Every AI implementation journey is unique. Some businesses jump in headfirst, signing up for public AI platforms and experimenting with GenAI tools. Some are already using predictive AI and want to explore other applications. Some are new to the whole spectrum and want support and guidance along the way. Whether you're dipping a toe or already knee-deep, our AI checklist is perfect to assess whether you're ready for AI or if there's any gaps in your current AI strategy.
How do you know if you're ready for AI?
you know why you want to implement ai
If you don't have a clear problem AI will solve, you need to understand why you're pushing for it. We're huge AI fans but we believe it's a tool and not a silver bullet. If you're unsure how AI will benefit your business, check out our list of business decision systems that will receive the best ROI outcomes.
Your team has the right skills and capacity
Before starting any AI project, you’ll need to assess whether your current team has the skills, knowledge and time to take on such a project. We recommend that your team has at least 10+ hours per week available to dedicate to it. Upskilling, recruiting new team members, or partnering with an external provider can all help solve any capability roadblocks.
Your internal DATA is in Good shape
We have a saying at Datamine: “rubbish in, rubbish out!”. This means if you’re feeding AI poor quality or dysfunctional data, the output will be poor quality as well. The good news is that there are ways to clean it up and organise it before you start. Your company may benefit from a data clean or new infrastructure to house your data, which will drastically improve the ROI of your AI project.
you're aware of your unique ISSUES AND CONSTRAINTS
Let’s be honest: Hidden issues are almost bound to pop up before any AI project can move forward. The key is to get on top of them as much as possible before they arise. Commons issues we see include:
- Your company is still operating on legacy systems that need an upgrade first
- You need more buy-in from the board and leadership team
- The technical team would rather handle any AI project themselves despite being overloaded with other work
We get it - it can be a lot to think about. To help you gain a clearer understanding of your current AI-readiness, we’ve put together a 7-question scorecard:
7 Questions to assess if you're ready for AI

If you can answer yes to most of these questions, congratulations! You’re in a great position to
start your AI venture.
However, if you’ve answered mostly “no”, don’t worry. A great place to start your journey is by checking out the Datamine Guide to AI.
