OUR DIRECTORS

PAUL O'CONNOR

Founder

Our founder Paul started Datamine in 1995 and has overseen the company’s growth into its current position as a key player in New Zealand’s data analytics community. He brings a human touch to data analysis, translating ‘geek-speak’ into English and never failing to turn the imponderable into actionable insights. Today Paul still works hands-on with Datamine’s technical teams — meaning clients and staff alike continue to benefit from his unparalleled analytics experience. A renowned innovator and graduate of Victoria University (BSc and GDipSc), Paul’s work has been published in the official journal of the American Statistical Association and he is a foundation member of the NZ Data Futures Forum.

SALLY CAREY

White Witch

Often referred to as Datamine's 'White Witch' (due to many clients viewing her work as being “like magic"), Sally’s 30 years of experience in strategy, marketing and quantitative decision making ensures she can always be relied on to deliver extraordinary results. As a co-owner and director of Datamine, Sally continues to work with key accounts — contributing her extensive industry expertise to Datamine's banking, insurance, energy, retail, and FMCG clients. Originally from the UK, she is a fellow of the UK Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing, a former Board member of the NZ Marketing Association and holds a BA in Systems Analysis and MBA from Bradford University.

MIKE PARSONS

Pioneer

As managing director, Mike works across the business, both technical & client-side, and brings deep industry experience in the banking, telco, energy, retail, FMCG, and insurance sectors. Popular with clients, Mike is frequently commended for his collaborative approach and commitment to using analytics to drive business performance and improvement. Originally from Canada, Mike’s life-long interest in analytics started in 1986 when he became a Canadian Junior Chess Champion. After graduating Brown University, Mike spent several years trading on Wall Street before moving to New Zealand in 2002. Senior roles at Bartercard and Earthwise Group followed before Mike joined Datamine in 2010.

What We Value

Externally, this means delivering a complete solution, internally it’s the small things that keep our business running.

Our brand promise. We’ve never failed so far and we don’t intend to.

Teamwork makes the dream work - and like the saying goes, many hands make light work.

Be excellent, but not OTT. We spend the right time to deliver the right solution - but it’s important to realise when you’re no longer adding value.

Go above and beyond, be the best you can be, think outside the square.

At Datamine we tell it like it is and address issues as they arise – so we'll always speak up – but in a constructive way.
